Description

Upwell Medical Disposable Specimen Retrieval Bag is an easy-to-use detachable retrieval system designed to temporarily contain specimen and facilitate its removal from the patient during laparoscopic surgery.

Indication:
Upwell Medical single use endoscopic retrieval bags are suitable for collecting human tissue specimens or foreign bodies and removing them in vitro under mininmally invasive endoscopic or laparoscopic surgeries.

Performance:
The endo bag body is in strong flexibility, elastic, more comfortable and safe film material in contact with the tissue.

  • UpwellMedical retrieval bag consists of a long cylindrical tube and a retrieval bag that minimizes spillage and intraoperative contamination by isolating and containing specimens.

  • The transparent and soft superior strength medical grade polymer pouch and support device made of Ni-Ti Memory alloys to assist in easy specimen insertion.

    Function and Purpose

    • Specimen Retrieval:
      • The primary function of an endo bag is to safely retrieve tissue specimens removed during laparoscopic or endoscopic procedures. For example, in laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), the gallbladder is placed into the endo bag after it is detached from the liver and other surrounding structures. This is crucial to prevent spillage of bile, stones, or other potentially harmful substances like cancer cells (in cases of suspected malignancy) into the body cavity.
    • Containment and Isolation:
      • The bag isolates the specimen from the rest of the body cavity. This is especially important when dealing with infectious or potentially contaminating materials. For instance, in the removal of an abscessed appendix, the appendix is placed in the endo bag to avoid spreading the infectious contents throughout the peritoneal cavity.
    • Safe Extraction:
      • Once the specimen is in the bag, it can be safely removed through a trocar site. The bag provides a means to extract larger specimens through relatively small incisions. For example, in laparoscopic surgery for large ovarian cysts, the cyst can be placed in the endo bag and then carefully pulled out through a slightly enlarged trocar incision without the risk of rupture and spillage.

    Advantages and Benefits

    • Reduced Complications:
      • By preventing spillage of specimens, the use of endo bags significantly reduces the risk of post - operative infections, abscess formation, and the spread of cancer cells (in oncological surgeries).
    • Minimally Invasive Compatibility:
      • It is well - suited for minimally invasive procedures. The ability to retrieve specimens through small incisions without causing additional trauma or contamination aligns with the principles of laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery, which aim to reduce patient morbidity and promote faster recovery.

How to use UpwellMedical Endo specimen retrieval container?
  1. Insert the Detachable Endo Retrieval Pouch through the tracer sleeve.
  2. Push the handle completely forward and the self-opening pouch will be advanced into the cavity.
  3. Place the desired specimen into the pouch.
  4. Pull the handle backward until the pouch is completely closed.
  5. Draw the handle out from the shaft so that it is entirely detached. (There will be 1 - 2 inches of the structure exposed.)
  6. Remove the fixed handle from the tracer site. (The string is left in the trocar cannula.)
  7. Remove specimen pouch with string.
